Motorcycle Repair: FLAT TIRE REPAIR?, flat tire repair, yamaha store

Question
Crap! I took my 1983 Honda CM450E out for a final 30 mile drive before wintering it, because it was so sunny and warm and clear in Ohio on Sunday.  About ten miles from home, I noticed a slight wobble or shimmy in the bike, but determined it wasn't in the front handlebars, tire nor breaks.

I determined to look more seriously for it upon arriving home. It got worse, but at constant speed, I was OK.  I thought it might be just a lines in the pavement, but never had experienced this before.

About 2 miles from home, the bike lerched at 35 mph as I entered a hill, and I immediately pulled over. It was obvious then that I had a flat rear tire.  I debated pushing it up hill to home or downhill 1 mile to the Yamaha store that was closed for two days.  I called the wife to come bring the portable air pump and a car.

Though the airpump ran fine, NO air pressure was making it into the tire...for whatever reason.  And I untangled a thin 1" rubber strip that had worked out from inside the tire and wrapped around the axel hub.

I opted to push the bike DOWNHILL to the Yamaha shop and leave it parked with a note on it.

I've NEVER had a flat tire before, though I recall the gas mileage on the bike getting worse this fall.  I suspect it was slow loss of air pressure, though I never suspected it nor checked it since the last servicing a month ago.

What should I do?  Is there an inner tube?  Should I ask the shop to try to pump up the tire? Replace the tire? (Tread looks good!)  Investigate a new inner tube?  Haul it home and store it till next Spring?   (I have no truck nor means to haul the bike, nor a stand nor blocks to set it up for the winter.)
ANY advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer
You would have to have the when taken off and the tire removed as well as the innertube to see what the problem is. If the tire is damaged, after inspection, then it needs replaced. If the inner tube is damaged then it needs replaced as well
Good luck and happy riding
