Motorcycle Repair: Hand Brake not illuminating brake Lights, softail standard, foot brake

I have a 2003 Softail standard.  When using only the foot brake, the rear illuminates.  However, when using only the hand brake, the rear light doesnt light up...help

Check your control housings where the brake lever is. You will se that its in two sections. They have to be pushed together tightly or the light will not work. When you push them together there is a switch that the button is being pushed in. If that is not the problem then open the switch and at the lever check to see if you have power going to the switch. If you dont then you will have to trace the wire back and located the break in the wire.
