Motorcycle Repair: 1998 Honda VT1100 oil leak, honda vt1100, oil leaks

I just purchased a 1998 Honda VT1100 and the bike sounds great, runs fine, but I just noticed oil coming from the drain plug side of the bike, at first I thought it must be the drain plug seal, but the oil seems to be coming from above the drain plug and the bottom radiator hose is also wet, could this be the oil pump leaking..?

Hi Rich,

I don't have any experience with the VT1100. However, to find the source of the oil leak, I like to clean the suspected area off really well (or clean the entire engine for that matter) and then wait for the oil to leak again. This should show you where the oil is coming from...it could very well be from the oil pump area, but I really can't say for sure. As with most oil leaks as you know, where they are leaking from, is not usually where they started from.
