Motorcycle Repair: 1980 FXWG Ignition, queen seat, instructional sheets

Question
QUESTION: First,Thanks Mike on the oil pump info. it was air bound. As my hose go in from the top, I took the top off of the oil tank and fired the motor. 20 seconds later the front jug was quiet again. Bike runs great, will slam you into the king and queen seat, but only wants to top end around 60mph. 4 spd 1980 FXWG. Has a DYNA TEX 200i DYNA programmable digital ignition system with six numbered slots with thumbwheels. 1st is down,2nd up,3rd down,4th up,with 5 and 6 down. I'm strictly a dual points man on these is it possible that the 5 and six, being off act as a governor to limit top end ? Thanks again for your help. Harold P.S. Has apparently had a hot cam put in it somewhere along the line, just can't imagine why it would have been geared down.

ANSWER: I need to know what RPM you are running at 60 MPH

QUESTION: You've stumped me on this one. The tach is one of those in dash jobs,1/2 moon 1-7 don't think it's wired up since the wiring melt down just vibrates about 1.5 rpms. Still not use to the feel and sound of the harley by sound I would say at 60 mph it is about 3.5 or 4 rpms definitely not straining. Thks again Harold P.S. on the tach wire which wire take off would I use to activate power to the tach?

Answer
If you go to the dyna web site you can get the instructional sheets for your ignition for the switches. You might either be hitting the rev limiter or its not set correctly. In order the know if you are hitting hte rev limiter you would have to know the RPMs
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
