Motorcycle Repair: electrical problem, ampmeter, bare wire

Question
I have a 1995 dyna and i put in a new battery, new regulator and tried everything and it keeps killing my battery. could it be the stator, a switch or something

Answer
Could be the stator or any number of things; usually the ignition switch is a first suspect.  Easiest thing to do is to disconnect one of the battery leads, and connect an Ampmeter in the circuit.  If it kills the battery quickly there could be 2 or 3 Amps of current flowing.  Once this is connected, start disconnecting things until the current drops to almost 0.  That's the way to identify the leaking circuit.  Once you find the circuit, go and check the different components in that circuit, or a possible bare wire causing a problem.  Good luck,  Jan
