Motorcycle Repair: 1981 honda cb 650, honda cb 650, sea foam

Question
I just bought a 1981 honda cb 650. When the bike is in first gear and i release the clutch it dies unless im going above 6 or 7mph. Right now i have to squeeze the clutch a little until i get up to that speed and then release it. If you have any idea what could be wrong I would really appreciate your help.

Answer
Hi Conor,

So let me see if I got this...if the bike is at a stand still and you put it in first gear and rev it a little and slowly release the clutch, it dies out?
When you do get it going (rolling at 6 or 7 MPH) does the bike have good power?
Some things to check:
-Are the brakes sticking? Does it roll freely without brake drag?
-Good compression?
-Is the air filter clean?
-If you haven't cleaned the carbs in a long time, try running some "Sea-Foam" carb cleaner through your tank. Follow the instructions on the bottle and only use whats recommended; don't pour the hole bottle in your tank.

Hopefully this will help narrow it down for you.
