Motorcycle Repair: carb settings for a 77 yamaha it175, yamaha owners, air screw

Question
QUESTION: what are the stock or basic carburetor adjustment on a 1977 Yamaha it175? also what is the recomended fuel mixture?

ANSWER: Hi Jason,

I don't really know what the carb settings are for your IT175. However I did find this on the Yamaha Owners Club Forum:
www.yamahaclub.com

"The air screw which turns with a screwdriver should be 1.5 to 1.75 turns out. Screw it in all the way then back it out 1 and a half turns to start. The hand adjuster on the side of the carb with the spring can be screwed in all the way to start, and it will idle high to begin with once it is started, then back the hand screw out as the bike warms up to reduce the idle speed."

I hope this helps?

QUESTION: ok i did this, but it wont rev up. it idols rough and when i pull the plug im seeing alittle oil im thinkin its the mix... it wants to rev but it just bogs. ive cleaned the carb up and down, the thing is spotless! it just wont rev..

Answer
Jason, is the air filter cleaned and oiled? If it is too dirty, it will run very rough (too rich)
And as with any 2 stroke, make sure the compression is good and the timing is spot on.
Also, if you suspect its the mix, then drain the fuel and put fresh gas in with the proper oil mix. Too much oil will make it run rough too.
