Motorcycle Repair: 1979 CX500 DELUXE, bill silver, accelaration

Question
I finally got thru my carbs and got my bike running. What is the correct adjustment for adjustment needle on each carb? Are these the hi speed screws? They have a spring under them.I set at around one full turn out initially and the bike seems to run pretty well with fair accelaration but not great. What is the correct adjustment for these screws? I would also like to know the correct idle speed. Thanks,Pat.

Answer
Pat, the screws are for the idle mixture only. Set them where the engine seems to run smoothly at 1100 rpms =- 100 rpm.

The needle taper meters fuel at part throttle conditions and they were jetted lean from the factory. If you change the air filters or mufflers, then you may need to remove the slides and put a thin washer underneath the needle to shim it up slightly.
