Motorcycle Repair: 1978 honda gold wing, honda gold wing, model questions

Question
I realize you have requested specific model questions but, i can not seem to find anyone to help me. I have a 1978 gold wing GL1000. It has sat for a season and i am having trouble keeping it runnning. I have drained all old fuel out and replaced the battery. It started fine and idled for about 5 min. then it shut off and i can not seem to get it restarted. if i pour gas directy into carb via air cleaner i can start it.  it will not however keep running. I am at a loss on why. Could it be the ignition or a relay ??????????????????When i last had bike running it was all good and had no problems to speak of.

Answer
You're running out of fuel.  Check that the gas cap vent is working.  Take the fuel line off at the carb, switch the fuel on and watch the flow; it should be plenty and constant.  If it stops after a while, then the vent is blocked.

Good luck,  Jan
