Motorcycle Repair: ajust valves, tdc mark, kawasaki atv

Question
hi i wanted to kno step by step how to ajust the valves on a 1987 kawasaki fx250 please respond as soon as you can thank you

Answer
Adam... I am confused. I went to BikeBandit.com for references and the KXF250 is a 2 stroke that doesn't have valves. I couldn't find a reference to a FX250.

The 250 Mojave does have valves, though, so maybe that is what you have.

It is a 4 valve head, with forked rocker arms. Turning the crankshaft to the TDC mark (T) on the compression stroke (valves will feel a little loose, if not turn the engine over ONE turn and check again) and then use a feeler gauge to check the clearances between the rocker arm adjustment screws and the valve stem tips. Motorcycle shops have special feeler gauges with bent ends, so it is easier to use them to check the clearances. Loosen the lock nut, turn the screw in or out to change the clearance and then tighten up the lock nuts again.
