Motorcycle Repair: 85 ironhead clutch, circlips, clutch

Question
I have an '85 Ironhead, I can't seem to get the clutch adjusted, when I adjust it (by the book) the lever is stiff, no give or spring whats-so-ever. So stiff that I'm afraid if I pull on it much, something's gonna snap.

I haven't taken the clutch apart, i've only pulled the adjusting screw and circlips to remove the clutch and primary assembly from the bike

Answer
Adjust the cable so it has alot of slack in it. loosen the adjuster on the clutch. Now take the cable and before trying to adjust, push the cable towards the primary. the isll move the acuator back where it should be. Now adjust the clutch. turn the adjuster nut just until it bottoms out and then out about 1/8 of a turn/ Now adjust the cable so you have 1/8 inch play in the lever
Good luck and happy riding
