Motorcycle Repair: Breaking cables!!, bends, slack

Question
Hey Mike, I have a 1200c with 12" mini apes, I originally put Magnum II cables all the way around and kept the push and pull cables on. I ride YEAR ROUND, so obviously I ride in rain sometimes, my idle cable (push cable) broke, I did an old school trick and lengthened the slack in my accelerate cable (pull cable), that worked for a couple more months and it gave out, I then turned to my original stock pull cable and it was pretty tight (length wise) but it worked, (it had quite a bit of slack in it though) well, it broke on me now. So, my question is this, WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I DOING WRONG?? I guess I don't know for sure what to do for measuring the overall length of the cable that I need and how to stop this garbage from happening. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME 411!?!?

Thanks for your help,
-Bronsen

Answer
I dont think you are doing anything wrong. Make sure you dont have any really tight bends in the cables. Use cable oil about every 2000 miles and that will help. When measuring for the cables, jsut make sure they are not to tight in length, where they bind and not to long that they stick out to far from the bike.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
