Motorcycle Repair: S&S 88 ci engine, cam case, pistons

Question
This is the engine on my Indian, 2001 Spirit.  Although it is not a Harley, the Indian uses the same S&S engine so I thought you might be able to help out.

I need a repair manual for this engine so that my mechanic can fix the problem whereby the the oil bag is emptied and oil is pumped out the blow-by tube.  When we try to turn the motor over with the starter, it makes a loud clacking noise when we open the throttle.  This suggests a problem with the rods, pistons, et.  Why is the oil being pumped out?

We need to find a repair manual to help us.  We have service and parts manual for the Indian.

Any ideas?

Answer
The service manual is the repair manual, unless you have a owners manual instead of the service manual. If you need a service manual you can get one from S&S. You can order them from their web site.
Oil might be pumped out if the return side of the pil pump is not working. Your clanging noise is probably not a rod. You would have heard somthing when the bike was at idle. It takes a while for a rod bearing to totaly fail. I would look in the cam case first and see if you have a cam bearing out
Good luck and happy riding
