Motorcycle Repair: Carb Jetting, straight pipes, jet sizes

Question
I have an 1981 cb custom 900.  We have r emoved the air box,and replaced it with 4 pods also have removed the baffles so it is running straight pipes now. What would you recommend for the jet sizes for main, primary and secondary.  We've tried everything from 87 to 135 in different combinations but nothing seems to get it to run smooth or sometimes bogging down.  The carbs have been completely rebuilt the only original part is the body.  We are about to replace the mains with 95 and 135.  Have you got any ideas???  Cant go back to original setting the way the bike is set up now

Answer
I'm running 75 and 110 in my racing CBX.  You have to check low rpm performance, to establish the low running mixture, so run at low revs for a while, cut the engine and check the plugs.  Repeat for mains.  I would vote for leaving it stock, but that means changing the airbox and pipes back.  Golden rule is, change one thing at a time and get the changes settled before changing something else.  Good luck,  Jan
