Motorcycle Repair: 73 sportster xlch, jb weld, helicoil

transmission drain plug was striped out then helicoiled.after years of taking plug in and out part of that block crumbled away.Half of the helicoil is exposed and in tight. My question is can the exposed area be build up with JB WELD or should I take the helicoil out and file the block back past the drain hole and use a self tapping drain plug ??? any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. thanks Paul

JB weld isnt going to work and a self tapping plug will probably strip out in time since the case is thin. About the only repair that is going to be permanent is first,remove the helicoil.
If you have enough metal to work with, you can drill it out and install a oversise plug. If it to stripped then you would have to fill the hole with weld, drill and retapp
