Motorcycle Repair: excessive oil, clutch adjustment, clutch basket

Question
i recently bought an 87 electra glide classic.it has just under 17000 km,s(ya i'm canadian).during an early morning burn out the clutch stayed engaged.in the daylight a buddy took off the inspection cover to do a clutch adjustment. there was an exessive amount of oil that we let drain out.he told me to keep an eye on the engine oil level, the oil level seems to be dropping fast.if i am loosing engine oil, which seals did i blow out and if so would it be a big job to repair?

Answer
If you have oil in the primary, other than primary oil, then its coming through the main seal behind the motor sprocket. Another thing is can be is in the late 80's harley had a problem with the cases leaking through and around the steel insert where the bearing goes. You can change the seal and see if that doesnt solve the problem. But if it continues then you would have to change the cases.
To replace the seal you would have to remove the clutch basket, chain adjuster, chain and motor sprocket.
Good luck and happy riding
