Motorcycle Repair: 1989 Goldwing GL 1500, goldwing trike, spark plug wires

Question
I have an 89 Goldwing Trike. While leaving the drive I was accelerating and lost traction on one side of the rear. When it did that the bike red lined. Now at an idle the right side of the motor, cylinders 1,3,5, have no power. That is to say the bike runs very rough and at about 500 rpms. When I remove the spark plug wires from that side of the motor there is no effect. When I remove the wires from the other side of the motor the bike stalls. I have changed the fuel filter, the air filter and all the plugs, with no improvement. Any thoughts next?

Answer
Kirk,
First thing is a compression test on the "bad" side...Next thing is to pull the timing belt cover( I assume that the 6 cyl cams are driven by a belt, I know that the 4's are) and check to make sure that you havent jumped time .  This will cause lousy idle, but it still may run "better" at higher r's.

Let me know what you find...I have a friend that was a service manager at Honda for 20 years and I can pick his brain for some help on this if needed

  Good Luck
