Motorcycle Repair: 1964 Honda Dream headlight, ebay sellers, replaceable bulbs

Question
Hello Bill!  Back in the 70's I rebuilt about 30 Superhawks, Scramblers.  I am looking for a headlight for my 1964 Dream Ca 77, 305 of course.  As you know, it is a square sealed beam unit.  I have seen what appear to be aftermarket lenses which allow for replaceable bulbs.  Although I could make my own, I'd rather find the right one-any suggestions?  Thanks-Rich

Answer
Rich, the Dixie International warehouses in Ohio had reproductions made under the Superior brand, back in the 1960s and sometimes you will find those sealed beam units for sale on Ebay and elsewhere. They don't say STANLEY on the glass which is a big clue. They are okay and will work for awhile, if the charging system is steady and the battery is strong.

US models all have sealed beam units. All non-US models had replaceable bulb style headlight units. There are Superior versions of those as well.

If you go to www.cmsnl.com site and check Honda C72 parts illustrations you can see the variations of the headlight bulbs.

No known source where you can just call up and order them, however. Check with Nick at www.ohiocycle.com to see if he has any squirreled away somewhere. Otherwise, check Ebay sellers who are parting out any 250-305 Dreams. Try the honda305 group on Yahoo, as well.
