Motorcycle Repair: Deceleration popping, head pipes, torca clamps

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 FLHTC with a carb. I have a deceleration popping problem that I can't cure. When I have stock mufflers on it there is no popping, when I have my Fuel Moto Jackpots on it I get popping and gurgling. I am using the factory head pipes which I have removed and reinsalled with new gaskets and Permatex. I use new torca clamps. I have fattened up the low speed jetting, adjusted the idle mixture and tried various sizes of main jet. I have removed and reinstalled the carb thinking the intake may be leaking. Nothing I have done has gotten rid of the problem. I have plug chopped and the mixture is dead on. The bike runs perfectly. Since the Jackpots have the anti-reversion cone could this be causing the problem? I have called them and been told no. Do you have any advice?

ANSWER: I am not familure with the exhast you have. Do they have baffles in them or are they straight pipes?

QUESTION: They are slip on mufflers. The left one has a 1 3/4" baffle wrapped in fiberglass. It has a reversion cone in the front of the baffle which in effect makes it a 2 into 1 system. The right muffler has a wrapped 2" baffle. It performs very well. My concern is that the reversion cone is pushing air into the right muffler during deceleration causing the popping. Here is the link to the mufflers. http://jackpotmufflers.com/

Answer
Your problem is the exhaust is loading up durning decell causing the popping, which is caused by the design of the mufflers. About the only suggestion I have would be to install torque cones in the exhaust and see if that doesnt solve the problem.
Good luck and happy riding
