Motorcycle Repair: 1994 Fatboy Carb Issue from 2 year storage, squits, diaphram

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1994 Stock fatboy thst was stored for 2 years with fuel in tank and fuel shutoff turned off. I drained the old gas (siphon) and refilled with new fuel. When  I first turn the throttle the fuel squits in strong. If I re-throttle the fuel just drips out.  It appears that I have to wait around 10 seconds for the fuel pressue to build up before a good stream.  The fuel smells old and is yellow. Is there a easy way to clean the old fuel in the carb without removal, or should I start with removing the fuel petcock to determine good delivery? any suggestions?

ANSWER: With the bike sitting that long you need to remove the carb and clean it out. Its probably varnished and the jets might be plugged as well
Good luck and happy riding

QUESTION: the fuel flow to carb great (fuel strainer/petcock). I removed the carb and cleaned all jets. is there a trick to get the upper diapham back into the carb groove.  it appears that when you almost get it in, there is a little extra and it won't go into the groove. i tried with the piston both up and down it it appears that the diaphram has a little extra(walks out).  Perhaps a new diapham will fit more snug. anyhow, i was wondering if there is a trick.

one note: when removing the float pin that holds the float to the carb an arrow is stamped on the casting. does this signify the direction to remove the pin?

Answer
Those diaphram are a pain to get in. Over time they get streached and it seems you have to much. If you cant get it back in you will need to replace it. When you said you cleaned the jets, you probably didnt soak it over night in a carb soak tank, which it probably needs.
Dont worry about the pin, it can go either way
