Motorcycle Repair: carb troubleshooting, yamaha grizzly atv, pilot jet

Question
My 98 Yamaha Grizzly ATV was in storage for 2 yrs. It wouldn't run so I took the carb off and cleaned it. Now it will start well when cold with the choke on but dies out when it warms up. It doesn't want run at higher rpms. It will not restart w/o choking it. I suspect I have it set too lean. The other problem I have which may or may not be related is that the carb leaks gas when sitting now.

Answer
when you cleaned the carb you did not clean the pilot circuit, the choke is acting as the pilot circuit. you need to clean the pilot jet with a fine wire and carb spray, also clean the pilot circuit in the carb body you need to see the carb spray go thru these passages BUT... the small jets need to be cleaned physically with a fine wire to get the buildup off of the inside of the orifices. The leakage is a stuck or upside down float. The float needle probably has some sediment stuck in there holding it open...
