Motorcycle Repair: Clutch cable, clutch cable, pivot arm

Question
QUESTION: We need idiot proof instructions how to change the clutch cable on a 99 sportster. We took the cover off and drained the fluid loosened the cable but could not finish the process. It seems like we are missing a very simple thing in order to get the cable end out and the new one back in.

ANSWER: Did you remove the primary cover or just the derby cover?

QUESTION: The end of the cable was exposed, so I would say we removed all the covers but could not get the end to come out of the notched area, because of the metal piece that is hooked to the clutch behind the end of the cable.

Answer
Looking at the arm that it is attached to you will see 3 bolts around it. remove the bolts and the pivot arm will slip out and you can remove the cable, by pivoting the clip in the arm. there is a flat and it will slip out
Good luck and happy riding
