Motorcycle Repair: clutch wont fully engage, clutch lever, clutch cable

when i pull in the clutch and put it in first the bike lunges forward and stalls i have tried to adjust but nothing seems to be working,,, it is a 1984 FXR custom, 1340 EVO later 84 model. any help appreciated.

Check the adjustment on the clutch. It is not releasing all the way. Loosen the clutch cable so there is slack in it. remov ehte derboy cover and in the center of the clutch you will see the adjustment screw. Loosen it and turn it out a little, now turn it inward just until it seats and then back out about 1/8 of a turn and its set. Now adjust the cable so there is about 1/8 inch play in the clutch lever
