Motorcycle Repair: breather oil, mikuni carb, gear failure

Question
I have a lot of oil coming from the head breathers on a 99 Heritage Softail with 10,000 miles.Mild cam,Mikuni carb. The oil tank looked low when starting to service it. Started bike, oil tank overflowed with fill plug out and excess oil out of breather hose/carb support. Compression is 110 on both cylinders without adding a little oil. Possible breather gear failure? Top end has never been apart.Started at the end of last season.

Answer
What happened was some oil weeped into the bottom end. When you started the bike the oil in the bottom end cant be pumped back to the tank fast enough, so it goes out the breather. If you filled the oil tank then the oil will come out it as well. Your check valve in the oil pumop might have had a speck of dirt in it so the oil would weep past the check valve. You dont have a problem with the breather gear. Just run the bike and it will clear itself
Good luck and happy riding
