I need to take the seat off to get to the battery.  What type of tool is needed to remove the seat.

Answer
A wrench, usually, if it is bolted on. Sometimes you just flip as lever under the seat. Or use the ignition key to open a seat lock. It all depends on the bike and if you don't have the owners manual, you can try seeking out an owners group online to see if they would know.
