Motorcycle Repair: throttle side grip replacement, suzuki boulevard c50t, stock grips

Question
I have a 2008 Suzuki Boulevard C50T on which I am trying to replace the stock grips. I got the throttle side grip off without too much trouble (cut a little piece off the cable housing) but can't get the cables to go back into the throttle housing on the new grip, which is identical to the old one. I am afraid of breaking or damaging the cable. I have looked for something that will put some slack in the cable but didn't find anything. Is there a trick to getting the cables back on?

Thanks,
Mike

Answer
What do you mean by cut a little piece off of the cable housing ? If you did that to the cable's housing itself then go buy a new cable before proceeding. Can you pull the throttle open, at the carb, and if so this will get you the necessary extra cable to get the end into the throttle tube connector area. Also, when doing this have the throttle tube in place on the handlebar this way you can just work the itch assy of the throlltle onto the tube after you have gotten the cable in and then clamp the thing to the bar...
