Motorcycle Repair: shifting, clutch adjustment, suzuki intruder

I have a 1988 suzuki intruder it was my dads bike there are abit of miles on it no real work on it just maintenance and a gasket that had to be replaced on the sludge clean out the person that did it put way to much oil back into ran it for 5min because it would not drive so i took the bike it sate for a year i drained the oil and put the proper amount in i put it into gear you can feel it go into gear i let the clutch out and nothing it don't move all fluid is good i don't have a clue where to start or what it could be  this is my first bike and is a nice one so i would like to get it going i will be for ever great full thanks

if there is the correct amount of oul in it then look at your clutch adjustment...could the clutch pushrod be too tightly adjusted ?
Does it seem to go at all ? Too much oil can also saturate the plates and cause some serious slippage of the clutch but what you describe seems like an adjustment. If the pushrod is ok, open the side cover, clutch cover, and with the manual, with the blow up picture of the clutch look inside and see what you find. was this clutch worked on adjusted, new springs ? some of these things could have been done wrong-
