Motorcycle Repair: 1989 cbr 600, houseofmotorcycles, pan gasket

Question
I just bought this bike it had a noise in the motor at 1000 to 2000 rpm runs fine, does'nt make the noise at any other rpm.I changed the oil pan gasket and found a chunk of metal in the pan 3 "long 1" wide and 2 wire connecters?I put it together with fresh oil still has the noise. What would cause a big chunk of metal to bust off in the motor like that and still run ok?What about the noise?I cant believe it still runs good

Answer
Dan, you can go to sites like: http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/honda-motorcycle-cbr600f-1989/o/m20... and look through the illustrations to see what a matching part would look like.

Most probably the noise/cause is camchain tensioner guide parts. Pull the cam cover off and take a look at the tensioner components inside. The sound you are hearing is the camchain rattling back and forth inside the cylinder block.
