Motorcycle Repair: 98 fatboy stalling, timing light, plug wires

Question
I have a 98 fatboy with the evo 1340 and i was riding today and the bike just shut down and would not restart until it cooled down. This happened last summer and that was the only time until again today.I was told that it could be the ignition module or ignition sensor behind the timing cover.Could that be what it is or do you have other thoughts on what it may be.Also i was told that if it is the sensor that if replaced i would have to retime the motor and if so could you walk me through that if it can be done here in my garage?I also fouled my plugs because as soon as i got it started i took off quickly to get it home without letting it warm up so it would not stall again but befour this happened i noticed that my rear plug seems to foul out alot.I am running with the dyna2000 ignition,if that has to do with any of my problems. Please help.....

Answer
First thing I would do is let the bike warm up and go for a short ride so it will quit running. Pull the plugs and see if you are getting any spark. If you are not, then your ignition is probably bad. As to the plugs fouling. You would need to test the coil and plug wires to make sure they are good. Ignitions dont really foul plugs. As to the timing, get the same ignition and before removing the old one mark where the notch in it is and then install the new one in the same place. To set the timing, you would need a timing light and its set at 35 degrees BTDC
Good luck and happy riding
