Motorcycle Repair: primary cover removal, sportster, bottoms

How would I remove the primary cover from a 1987 Sportster? (without breaking anything) Please help i want to ride my bike!

Remove the derby cover on the back of the primary cover. Behind it you will find a spring and nut. Both slide off. Remove the nut behind that. You have to turn the screw inside it to get it out. remov ethe bolts fromt he primary cover and pull if off, after you drain the oil. Once you are done, install the cover and put the first nut back on and turn the screw, just until it bottoms and then back out about 1/8 turn. Put the other nut back on and the spring. Put in your oil and install the cover.
