Motorcycle Repair: generator on 71 sporty, volt generator, nuts and bolts

i took of the 12 volt generator reinstalled but forgot to mark the wires one is red and one is green,i know the green is ground and red is positive but which side do they mount on as facing the primary side on top of the generator there are 2 nuts and bolts which side does the green and red go on for example does the red go on the left or the right and same for the green and thanx in advance for your help,,,,mil

The two wire colors on the generator should be red and gray, so somebody has changed the wires. Look a the top close to the posts on the generator and by each post there should be a letter. One is a A for armature and the other is F for field. If you look at the regulator posts you will see the same thing. So the F goes to the F on the regulator and the A goes to the A on the regulator
