Motorcycle Repair: bike problem, water in the air, fuel pump

my bike was riding fine then i went ahead and washed my bike now it wont start i can hear the fuel pump kick on and it wants to start up but all it does is back fires

It would really help if you had told me what make and model of bike you have... all I can tell from your post is that it has a fuel pump, which means it has fuel injection.

I'm guessing you either got water in the air filter/intake system and/or the electrical/ignition system. Check the air filter first to see if it is saturated with water. If it is dry and there is no evidence of water in the intake system, then chances are something in the electrical/ignition system got wet... let the bike sit outside in the sun for a day to evaporate the water, then see if it will start.
