Motorcycle Repair: electrical problem, volt meter, electrical problem

Question
I have a 1990 FLTCU,and in 1994 it was converted to a Trike by Lehman. The problem is the volt meter never reaches the full 14 volts only 13 volts on the gauge when it is running at an idle or at 2000 rpm's, when I put the lights on the the volt's drop to 10 volt's and does not move any higher even going down the road. When I apply the brakes the volts's drop to 10 when released it's back to 12 volt's, this also happens with the turning signals the volt's bounce from 12 to 10 and 10 to 12 volt's when flashing.
Thank you for your advice in advance.
George

Answer
Do your voltage at the battery with a meter. Sometimes the volt meter on the bike might be off. Start the bike and at 2000 RPM you should be showing around 13.5 volts. If not then test the battery to make sure its good. Then test the stator. If the battery is good and the stator is good, then the regulator is bad.
Good luck and happy riding
