Motorcycle Repair: Oil in air canister, long periods of time, honda 500

Question
I have a 1985 Honda 500, I have oil coming in the canister from the line off the engine , I understand that it is normal to have small amounts but it seems excessive and it soked my airfilter to the point that the mixture went rich and sooty the plugs , I plugged the hole in the bottom of the air canister and opened the drain on the little overflow tank. (cleaned the plugs and replace airfilter ) This releaved the issue , but I still have the problem of messy oil bowing out ,  IS this a ring problem or a plugged up line some place . I have lots of power now for a 500.

Answer
That little oil line is a crankcase vent, it allows oil vapours from inside the motor to get burned with the fuel mixture and not pollute the environment. If you're getting oil mist coming out of it to the point where it saturates the air filter, that is usually an indication that there is too much oil in the motor. Check the oil level in the motor and drain off any excess, that should clear up the problem.

Also, check to make sure you are not over revving the motor for long periods of time... if you are in too low a gear for the speed you are going, the motor has to work harder and will create more oil vapours to be expelled out that small hose.
