Motorcycle Repair: tapping in cylinders, honda vt750, low oil pressure

hi rick got an 83 honda vt750 shadow hot or cold theres annoying tapping coming from the cylinder heads sounds like top end tapping bin told loads of different causes from lifters tappets rockers cam chain told to flush out and new oil and filter being new to riding I wouldnt no where to start.According to the manual the tappets are hydraulic and no adjustment necessary can live with it but would be nice to hear the throaty sound of the exhaust now and again any suggestions

Paul, my wife's VT700 has the same tapping at idle but it goes away as soon as the bike is revved up a little.  It bugs me too but there's not much to be done about it.  It can because by low oil pressure, or a plugged oil filter.  You might want to try running a higher oil viscosity.  If there is sometime wrong, you'll want to get it checked out because it can cause the valves to fail because of high seating velocities.
