Motorcycle Repair: 1981 CB750C air fork seals, slide hammer, cb750c

Question
Hi Rich,

I've gotten a lot of help from your other responses THANK YOU.

Clymer manual says the seals must be done by a Honda shop?
Chilton's indicates a fairly easy procedure but refers to "special plugs for the cap".

Any info would be helpful.

Answer
Jim, there's nothing too special about them.  You have to take the dust seal off, remove the snap ring and the allen head screw in the bottom of the fork leg.  Then you have to use the lower fork leg like a slide hammer and pop the seal out of the leg.  You then have to use a piece of plastic pipe and drive the new seal into place.  Fill it up with the right amount of fork oil, and put it all back together.

Nothing to it.

PS, You will scratch or damage the fork tube by trying to pry the seal out with a screw driver and you can damage the tubes by trying to hammer the seal back in with a punch.  Those methods don't work.
