Motorcycle Repair: IRONHEAD 72 CLUTCH AJUSTMENT, clutch lever, metal plates

Question
I REBUILT MY CLUTCH.NEW FRICTION AND METAL PLATES. FOLLOWED THE BOOK TO A TEE.AND CAN'T GET CLUTCH TO ENGAGE.I SET THE RELEASING PLATE 11/32  LIKE BOOK SAYS.AND AJUSTED LIKE BOOK SAYS. WHEN I SQUEEZE THE CLUTCH TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH,IT WON'T ENGAGE. IT SEEMS LIKE THE RELEASING DISK ISN'T GOING IN TO RELEASE THE PLATES. AND ONE OF THE THINGS I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS..IT SAYS TO TURN THE AJUSTING SCREW IN UNTILL IT GETS HARDER TO TURN,THAN TURN 2 MORE TIMES. WHAT DEGREE IS HARDER?? I NEED HELP.I TRIED THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN.lovesonnygray @yahoo.com or phone #317-353=4893

Answer
Loosen the adjuster and the cable so there is alot of slack in it. Push the cable back towards the primary, that way the pivit arm is all the way back. Now go to the clutch adjuster in the center and turn it inward, just until it bottoms out and then outward about 1/8 of a turn. Now go to the cable and adjust it until you have about 1/8 inch play in the clutch lever and your set
good luck and happy riding
