Motorcycle Repair: goldwing1800 front brake tail light, brake light switch, voltmeter

Question
does not work, driving lights okey and back brake light okey.  what is the first step for trouble shooting for activating front brake light?

Answer
The first step is always to read the shop manual. The shop manual often has model specific information that can save you a lot of work.

Some bikes have a mechanically operated brake light switch mounted on the brake lever and some have a hydraulically operated brake light switch plumbd into the brake line. I'm not sure which your model has.

In either case, make sure the wires haven't becme unplugged from it.

If the wires were connected securely, un-plug them and connect them together. If the brake light comes on the problem is in the switch itself - either it neds to be adjusted or it is faulty.

If the brake light does not come on when the wires are connected together, the problem is in the wiring. Consult the schematic in your shop manual and make sure there aren't any other connectors in the circuit that could have become disconnected. If everything is plugged in properly you will need to go through the circuit with a voltmeter to find the problem.
