Motorcycle Repair: 76 flh oil pump, rocker boxes, mike hope

ALOHA MIKE,  HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD VACATION.  A WHILE  AGO I WAS DEALING WITH THE BALL CHECK VALVE ON MY '76 FLH.  SO I REMOVED THE SPRING AND "TAPPED" IN IT TO, HOPEFULLY, GET IT TO SEAT.  I AM STILL GETTING THE OIL DELUGE INTO THE PRIMARY INTERMITTENTLY.  I USED A NEW BALL AND SPRING.  SO, MAYBE I SHOULD TAP A BIT HARDER?  MAYBE ROTATE THE BALL AND TAP AGAIN?  YOU MENTIONED HONING THE BALL SEAT.  IS THERE A WAY TO TRY TO GENTLY HONE WITH SOMETHING WHILE THE PUMP IS ON THE BIKE?  IF I HAVE TO REMOVE IT, WHAT DO I USE TO HONE IT THEN?  GOOD NEWS IS I GOT IT RUNNING NOW (IT'S BEEN OVER TEN YEARS DUE TO ILLNESS) BY STATIC TIMING, I'LL BE CHECKING IT WITH MY TIMING LIGHT NEXT.  I HAVE AN ARTICLE ABOUT ADDING OIL LINES TO THE HEAD FOR BETTER LUBRICATION.  ALSO MY ROCKER BOXES CLATTER A GOOD BIT, EVEN AFTER I ADJUST THE VALVES (THEY ARE SOLID LIFTERS WITHN ADJUSTABLE PUSH RODS)  I KNOW THAT THE ORIGINAL SPECS ALLOWED FOR QUITE A LARGE VARIANCE IN THE END PLAY,  BUT NOW FIND ABOUT .004" TO BE GOOD.  CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND THE CORRECT SPACER KITS TO GET THIS TO THE NEWER SPEC'S?  ALSO IS THERE A CERTAIN WAY (OR SIDE) TO PLACE THEM TO GET THINGS QUIETED DOWN?  WELL THAT SHOULD MAKE UP FOR YOUR VACATION TIME!  AGAIN,  THANKS MIKE

You can hone the seat or try to tap a little harder on the ball. i use a old pushrod to hone the seat and some honing compound.
On the pushrods, just tighten them so that they just turn in your fingers. there are not spacers. Solid pushrods do make a little noise and there is not much you can do
