Motorcycle Repair: Ignition problems, bill silver, pulse generator

Question
I have a 1982 Honda CM250C, I had a bad pulse generator by resistance, I found one not exaclty like mine but the guy said just make sure it mounts and is in the same possition as the old one and I my friend had a coil that was the same as mine. I got it running and so to give my friend his coil back went to the place that I got the pulse generator to get a coil. again he had no exact one and gave me one off of I dont know what all I know is it has the screw on wires and the coil had + and - post my old one just and the positive and the neg. went to ground on the coil. I hooked his up and I got a very weak spark that you can hardly see. I put my friends back on and the same thing but it started with my friends before. Did the coil off of I dont know what fry my CDI and is there a way to test them.
Thank you  Tim

Answer
You can't mix coils from CDI and points ignition systems. Point coils have around 4-5 ohms resistance and CDI coils have about 1-2. CDI coils in points applications will draw too much current and vice-versa for the CDI units.

CDI Sparks are usually very faint, anyway.
