Motorcycle Repair: 1983 V65, screw driver, starter button

Question
I have a 1983 honda v65magna was having a noise when i started it, sounded like the starter was kicking in then out (would turn over then stop then turn over and start) now it does nothing .Can hear the solenoid click but no action from starter.Have tried direct wiring to starter but nothing  also starter will not just slip out.Battery is fully charged and headlight dims out when starter button is pushed.tried starter directly with a car battery no luck. Also nothing when jumping solenoid.Any sugestions?

Answer
Sounds like the starter motor is bad.  If you supply power directly to the starter and it doesn't crank the engine, it's a bad starter.  You have to be pretty careful when you try this.  It will burn up a starter in a hurry if the rotor is stalled and you put high current into the start by connecting it directly to a car battery.  You will need to take the filter off to make room to slide the starter out after you take the two mounting bolts out.  You may have to take a screw driver and pry a little on the starter to pop it out.
