Motorcycle Repair: 2007 street bob, clutch lever, starter relay

QUESTION: i was recently in an accident on my bike didn't do much damage just broke my clutch lever well i have recently replaced the lever but my bike wont crank with it held in it will only crank in neutral what might it be and what should i do to fix the problem thanks for your help   Kelly

It sounds like you have a short in the wiring. I would start by disconnecting the wire going to the starter from the starter relay. Using a test light connected to the wire going to the starter hit the starter button with the bike in netural. then try it by putting it in gear. You should be getting power at both times. If not, then you will have to trace the wire out for the netural switch and see if there is a short in it
