Motorcycle Repair: help, bill silver, cam timing

Question
hi
i am just wondering if you could help me out i was driving along on my bike and it started sputtering like there was no petrol in the tank when it was almost full eventually the bike cut out and now it won't start up again. do you have any suggestions to what the problem could be? thanks

Answer
Sean, my info page asks for questions that have specific information about the make, model and year of the bike. You have provided none of that.

Engines need:
*Compression, based on cam timing and condition of valves and rings/pistons

*Spark at the right time
*Fuel, mixed at the right amount
*Air unrestricted
*Unrestricted exhaust system.

You have to verify each of those requirements to see which one is missing.

Fuel delivery, depending on whether the bike has fuel injection or carbs, requires fuel flow from the gas tank, through the fuel valve (petcock) which is sometimes vacuum operated, through fuel filter and lines to carb/injection system.

Dirt or corrosion in the fuel system can clog up the carbs/injectors.

There are MANY possibilities here. Be specific when you ask questions from people who volunteer their time for free, please.
