Motorcycle Repair: saw, honda shadow 750, honda shadow vt750

QUESTION: i had asked a question about my 83 honda shadow 750 not chargin the battery i was goin thru and i found the answer to my question but i am new to bikes i need to know where the diff charging system parts are im tryin to do all the repairs by ear so to say because i cant afford the repair manuals and a lot of the parts so any help or anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated

ANSWER: The stator and rotor is under the left hand engine cover.  The rectifier/regulator is under the side cover.  It's that finned do-dad that has the three yellow wires along with some red and red and white wires going in and out of it.

QUESTION: i have a 1983 honda shadow vt750 when i try to shift from 1st gear to second it wont let me it stops in nuetral every so often it will work then when i get up to 6th gear or overdrive it seems like it wants to over shoot that gear and it goes and wont do anything no overdrive lights wont move or do anything until i play with it a little bit can you tell me whats wrong?

Mike, that's a bit unusual...the only explanation I have is that the clutch is dragging some. This preloads the transmission so the shift drum is difficult to rotate.  When you apply enough force to move the drum, it jumps to the next next gear.
