Motorcycle Repair: 89 fxsts rebuild, ev3, pushrods

Question
last year i bought my 1st Harley a 1989 fxsts. It had a small leak in the rocker box that progressively got worse, and not long after the blow by started. Not knowing anything about the bike before I bought it I figured it's time to rebuild the top end. after I pulled the barrels off I got to looking in my book and realized my pushrods are adjustable and stock ones are not so curiosity got the best of me and sure enough it has an aftermarket camshaft (andrews EV3)how do I set the valves after I have my head work done. My book tells me how to do it w/stock parts and i'm sure it's different now.

Answer
Go to the front exhaust. Rotate the motor so the lifter is all the way at the bottom of its stroke. Now adjust the pushrod so its tight and then go a few more turns. Now, let it sit for about 15 minutes so the lifter can bleed down. Go back and check it. If you can turn the pushrod between your fingers then it is not bled. So tighten it again and then wait 15 minutes. Keep doing this until you can freely turn it between your fingers. Once you cant turn it, loosen it until it turns freely and then 1 1/2 more turns and tighten the locknut. Now its set. Do all the other pushrods the same way
Good luck and happy riding
