Motorcycle Repair: Honda QA50 transmission problem, honda qa50, transmission problem

I have a 1970 QA50E-A that will not shift properly.  Currently it will shift from neutral to 1st to 2nd but will not downshift.  This is apparently a common problem with this bike.  Do you have any thoughts on solving this shifting problem?

Jerry, does it shift properly with the engine shut off?  If it does, the clutch may be dragging some.  If it doesn't you'll want to take the right crankcase cover off and check the shifter mechanism.  Sometimes the roller detents wear to the point they don't roll properly and prevents the drum from turning.
