Motorcycle Repair: Carb, vernier caliper, honda ct200

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1964 Honda CT200 trail 90 and I was wondering how to set the float level?

ANSWER: Ed, sorry I took so long to get to this question. I had to find an old float level gage to find out the float setting.  You can set the floats with a vernier caliper but Honda has a special tool to make it more fool proof.  You have to meaasure the distance between the bottom of the floats to the bottom of the carb.  That should be 21.0 mm on a CT90.  You want to adjust the tang in the middle of the floats to just touch the needle pin as the float is set to the right height.

QUESTION: Thank you for the reply.
What do you mean by "bottom of the carb"? The gasket surface? Is this done with the top half of the carburetor upside down?
Is there a difference between the CT 90 and the CT 200 trail 90? Also, I have a down draft, not side draft, carburetor.

Answer
There's a rim around the base of the carb where the gasket sits.  You measure from the edge of that rim.  The carb needs to be upright to measure the floats.  The weight of the floats should hold it to gage.  You have to look close at the pin in the middle of the needle and it should just starts to compress as the gage contacts the rim.
