Motorcycle Repair: 1985 Honda Shadow vt700 wont start, shadow, tipover

Question
Hi - I tipped  (while stationary) my 1985 Honda Shadow (700) on it's right side last night. I stood it up and it started up, but soon after lost power, surged a few times and cut off. It hasn't started since - It turns over but does not start. There is no obvious damage I can see - The spark plugs are newer and clean when I remove them, and there is plenty of gas (full tank). It was raining last night, but only very lightly. Thanks in advance!

Answer
I think your bike might have a tipover switch that cuts off the fuel pump if the bike isn't upright. Maybe yours is suck in the off position.

I have no personal experience with Shadows, but the guys at the Honda Shadow Resource Centre seem to be pretty knowledgable and I'm sure smeone there knows what you need to do.

Joining a good online usergroup like the Shadow Resource Centre is a really good idea. Like it or not, your bike is an antique and you are not likely to find a shop that will work on it. The sad fact is that a lot of the mechanics working now are too young to remember bikes this old and aren't interested in learning about them so that they can do a proper job since yours may be the only one they see this year. A good shop manual and the help you will find on a good forum will make that job much easier.
