Motorcycle Repair: Honda CL200 RPM response, needle nose pliers, rich thanks

Question
Rich,

Thanks for your help with the throttle problem, after a bit of lubrication, the rpm is rising and falling smoothly. BUT, i seem to have yet another issue. The bike is idling well, but if i open the throttle even a tad, the rpm will shoot up to 5,000-6,000 then back down to idle. Any ideas?

Thanks Rich,

Mike

Answer
If the engine speed tends to hang up, it's usually the timing advance unit.  The springs get tired and allow the engine to stay advanced loner that it should.  I usually take needle nose pliers and pinch the loops on the end of the springs closed to slightly increase the tension on the springs.  Just don't close them up too much or the engine won't perform well. It only takes a little more tension.
