Motorcycle Repair: Question about your industry, dirt bikes, lifetime career

Question
Hi Rich

I was wondering if you could answer some questions I have. I am interested in dirt bikes, and was wondering about a career in repair. Is it a field that you can make decent money in? I spoke to a friend of mine who is an auto tech and he says not, but I don't know as he has the knowledge to make that claim. Can you tell me your experience? Thanks.

Answer
Rick, A good mechanic can make pretty decent money.  It's probably more for a young person as a way to earn money as they figure out what they want to do with the rest of their lives.  It's not something you would want to do as a lifetime career.  I really enjoyed doing it while I went to college to be an engineer.  I enjoyed the mechanical experience, I enjoyed problem solving and I liked to figure out how to get everything I can out of an engine.

Motorcycles are pieces of art, advanced technology, and a lot of fun to work on ...not to mention ride.  It's a great experience but probably not a life time career unless you get into racing work with one of the major racing team.

Do something you love and you won't work a day in your life.

Regards
Rich
